In Memoriam: Stars We Lost in 2022

It’s hard to believe that another year has come and gone. Hollywood saw both highs and lows in 2022, including the tragic losses of a few well-known stars. While many of these celebrities passed from either illness, an accident, or natural causes, some of them were quite young and left this world too soon. In honor of their memory and a life well-lived, follow along as we remember all the popular celebrities we sadly lost in 2022.

Aaron Carter

Former child star and musician Aaron Carter sadly passed this year on November 5th. Aaron rose to fame in 1997 with his self-titled debut album, followed by Aaron’s Party (Come Get It) (2000), Oh Aaron (2001) and Another Earthquake! (2002). Some of his early hits included “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It),” “That’s How I Beat Shaq” and his cover of The Strangeloves’ “I Want Candy.

Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II sadly passed at the age of 96 on September 8, 2022. She passed peacefully at Balmoral Castle, her beloved summer home in the Scottish Highlands, surrounded by family. She was the UK’s longest-serving monarch after reigning for 70 years. Beloved by the world, she made a huge impact on both the nation and monarchy by helping to navigate decades of social change. She was a symbol of strength, compassion, and elegance.

Anne Heche

Emmy Award-winning actress Anne Heche passed at the age of 53 in August 2022. Heche passed following a car accident that left a home destroyed. Heche never regained consciousness following the crash. Heche’s career in Hollywood spanned decades, with some of her most memorable roles including VolcanoWag the DogI Know What You Did Last SummerSix Days Seven Nights and the 1998 remake of Psycho.

Olivia Newton-John

Actress Olivia Newton-John, best known for her role as Sandy in Grease, passed in August 2022 at the age of 73. Olivia’s husband, John Easterling, shared the sad news and revealed that she passed peacefully at her ranch in Southern California, surrounded by family and friends. “Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer,” he wrote at the time.

Robbie Coltrane

Beloved actor Robbie Coltrane, who was best known for his role as Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, passed away in October 2022 at the age of 72. Aside from Harry Potter, the actor had many other memorable roles including in the James Bond films GoldenEye (1995) and The World Is Not Enough (1999) in which he played Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky.

Paul Sorvino

Actor Paul Sorvino, known for his roles in Goodfellas and Law & Order, passed in July of this year. According to reports, Sorvino passed due to natural causes at the age of 83. Sorvino’s wife, Dee Dee Sorvino, was by his side. Sorvino is survived by wife Dee Dee, his three children, Mira, Amanda, and Michael, and five grandchildren.

Ray Liotta

In May of this year, Goodfellas actor and Emmy winner Ray Liotta sadly passed at the age of 67. PEOPLE confirmed that Liotta passed in his sleep in the Dominican Republic, where he was shooting the film Dangerous Waters. The star was engaged to fiancée Jacy Nittolo, and was father to daughter Karsen, 23, with ex-wife Michelle Grace. Liotta was best known for his breakout role in 1990’s Goodfellas, but he also had starring roles in Cop LandBlow, Marriage Story and Something Wild.

Mike Hagerty

Actor Mike Hagerty, known for his roles on Friends and Somebody Somewhere, passed in May 2022 at the age of 67. Hagerty is fondly remembered by fans for his recurring role as Mr. Treeger on the hit sitcom Friends. He also appeared in many movies and television series, including, Brooklyn Nine-NineCheersCommunityCSICurb Your EnthusiasmEntourageGleeGrey’s AnatomyShamelessSeinfield and more.

Noami Judd

Naomi Judd, best known as part of the iconic country duo The Judds, passed at age 76 in May 2022. Naomi was one half of the mother-daughter duo The Judds, who had a decades-long career together and fourteen No.1 songs. A few of their popular hits include “Mama He’s Crazy,” “Why Not Me,” “Girls Night Out,” “Rockin’ with the Rhythm of the Rain,” and “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout the Good Old Days).”

Taylor Hawkins

Drummer Taylor Hawkins passed on March 25 at the age of 50. The iconic musician played with Alanis Morissette’s band before joining the Foo Fighters in 1997. He played with the band for 25 years. News of Hawkins’ passing broke just before the Foo Fighters were set to perform in Bogotá, Colombia, at the Festival Estéreo Picnic.

Bob Saget

Actor and comedian Bob Saget sadly passed at the age of 65 in January 2022. The Full House star was in Orlando, Florida for a comedy show when he was discovered unresponsive by hotel security at the Ritz Carlton. Saget is survived by his wife Kelly Rizzo and three daughters Lara, Aubrey and Jennifer with whom he shares with his ex-wife Sherri Kramer.

James Caan

Legendary actor James Caan passed at the age of 82 in July 2022. Some of his most notable roles include The Godfather (1972), Misery(1990) and Elf (2003). Some of his other notable roles include roles in films such as Brian’s Song (1970), Cinderella Liberty (1973), The Gambler (1974), Rollerball (1975), Dick Tracy (1990), Bottle Rocket (1996) and Eraser (1996). Caan is survived by sons Scott, James, Jacob and Alexander, as well as daughter Tara.

Meat Loaf

Rock superstar Meat Loaf, best known for his Bat Out of Hell album, passed in January 2022 at the age of 74. Meat Loaf is best known for his mega-selling collaboration Bat Out of Hell with songwriter Jim Steinman and producer Todd Rundgren. The album was released in 1977 and is known to have made him one of the most recognizable performers in rock. A few notable tracks include You Took The Words Right Out of My MouthTwo Out of Three Ain’t Bad and Paradise By the Dashboard Light.
