Simple At-Home Face Masks for Glowing Skin

At-home face masks are a great way to elevate your skincare routine and pamper yourself at home. While you may think that you need expensive products and brands to treat yourself to an at-home spa night, this couldn’t be farther from the case! Some of the best face masks come from the vitamins and minerals from the earth. You may be surprised to learn how many common household items hiding in your cupboards can double as a nourishing face mask. This way, you can also control the ingredients that are soaking into your skin rather than some of the hidden ones that may be in products from the store.

From lemons to turmeric to oats, follow along as we outline some of the best ingredients and face mask recipes to help you achieve glowing skin at-home.

Honey And Matcha Face Mask

Honey is a common item that most families keep in their home. It also doubles as an amazing skincare ingredient since it is known for its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and soothing properties. This particular recipe also contains green tea, in the form of matcha, which contains antioxidants to fight free radicals. Be sure to opt for a matcha powder that doesn’t contain any sweeteners or additives. You could also opt for green tea leaves if you don’t have matcha on hand.

Ingredients & How To Apply

  • 1-teaspoon (tsp) of matcha powder
  • 1-tsp of honey
  • 1-tsp of sweet almond or jojoba oil

Mix the honey, matcha and oil of choice until they form into a thick paste. Apply to the skin and leave on for 15-minutes. Rinse with warm water and a wash cloth.

Avocado And Almond Face Mask

If you’re struggling with dry skin, avocados could be the perfect solution for you. Avocados are packed with healthy fats that can boost the skin’s moisture. This recipe also uses honey, which soothes the skin, and ground almonds, which will have a gentle exfoliating effect.

Ingredients & How To Apply

  • A quarter of an avocado, mashed
  • 2-tablespoons (tbsp) of honey
  • 2-tbsp of finely ground almonds

Mix the avocado, honey and ground almonds until smooth. Be sure that the avocado is sufficiently mashed for easiest application. Apply the paste to your skin and leave on for 15 to 20-minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Banana And Lemon Face Mask

Banana is another ingredient packed with plenty of vitamins and minerals that can benefit the skin. Bananas are known for their potassium, fiber and antioxidants, as well as their high levels of vitamin B6 and vitamin C. If you struggle with oily skin, this face mask will work great for you. The banana will absorb any excess oil on your skin, while the the lemon juice will cleanse your pores.

Ingredients & How To Apply

  • One banana, mashed
  • 10 drops of lemon juice
  • 1-tsp extra virgin olive oil

Combine the mashed banana, lemon juice and olive oil until smooth. Apply with your fingers or a brush and leave on for 10 to 15-minutes. Rinse well with warm water. Be sure the banana is smoothly mashed for best application.

Turmeric Honey Face Mask

Turmeric may be a less common household item to have, but if you do happen to have it in your cupboards, your skin will thank you for it. Turmeric, in both powder or paste form, can do wonders for acne-prone skin because it is a natural anti-inflammatory. This face mask recipe is also combined with honey which is antibacterial and can help the skin heal. Just be cautious when using turmeric because its rich pigment can easily stain your clothes.

Ingredients & How To Apply

  • 1/2-tsp of turmeric (powder or paste)
  • 1-tbsp of honey

Combine the turmeric and honey until smooth. Apply with your fingers or a brush and leave on for 10 to 15-minutes. Rinse well with warm water.

Oats and Honey Face Mask

If you’re looking for a face mask loaded with hydrating and moisturizing benefits, this oats and honey mask is likely a good fit. This mask combines oats, honey and avocado to create a creamy, hydrating blend. The avocado is loaded with healthy fats, while the honey has antibacterial properties. The oats work incredibly well to moisturize the skin since it contains properties that act as a humectant such as starch, sugar and oil. They also work to absorb excess oil in the skin and contains a compound called avenanthramides, which acts as an anti-inflammatory.

Ingredients & How To Apply

  • Half an avocado, mashed
  • 1-tbsp of honey
  • A handful of oats

Mix the avocado, honey and oats until smooth. Apply to face and leave on for 15-minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Aloe Vera Banana Face Mask

Aloe vera is a superstar ingredient when it comes to treating sunburns, but it also has incredible benefits in the form of a face mask. Aloe vera is packed full of vitamins A and C, antioxidants, and enzymes, which work well to treat dry, flaky skin. This face mask recipe combines aloe vera with banana to soothe irritation and nourish inflamed skin.

Ingredients & How To Apply

  • One banana, mashed
  • 2-tbsp of aloe vera gel
  • 3-tsp of almond oil

Combine the banana and aloe vera until they form a smooth paste. Then add in the almond oil to the mixture. Apply to your face and leave on for 15-minutes. Rinse with warm water and a wash cloth.

Lemon and Egg Whites Face Mask

Are you looking for a brightening effect for your skin? This lemon and egg whites face mask may be the perfect fit for you! The lemon will cleanse the skin and lighten pigmentation, while the egg whites will tighten and hydrate the skin. The honey will soothe, prevent irritation and contains antimicrobial and antibacterial benefits.

Ingredients & How To Apply

  • One egg white
  • 1/2-tbsp of honey
  • 1/2-tbsp of fresh lemon juice

Whisk the egg white, lemon and honey until the mixture is smooth and foamy. Apply to face and leave on for 30-minutes. Don’t be alarmed if you feel a tightening sensation as this is common with this type of mask. Rinse with warm water and a wash cloth.

Peaches and Cream Mask

Looking for mask that contains anti-aging properties? This peaches and cream mask will do just the trick! Peaches contain vitamin C which boosts collagen and elasticity, while the Greek yogurt will work to exfoliate and brighten the skin. The almond milk will have a hydrating and softening effect, while the cinnamon will increase circulation.

Ingredients & How To Apply

  • 1/2-cup almond milk
  • 1/2-cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 ripe peaches sliced, pit removed
  • 1/4-tsp cinnamon
  • honey

Place all ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth. Leave on for 10 to 15-minutes, then rinse. You could even blend this recipe into a smoothie and save a teaspoon for a DIY face mask.

Aloe Rosemary Mask

This hydrating aloe and rosemary face mask will provide your skin with a fresh, plump appearance, and added bonus — it also smells amazing! The aloe vera will soothe inflammation and deeply moisturize while the rosemary contains antioxidant and antibacterial properties.

Ingredients & How To Apply

  • 4-tbsp of fresh aloe vera blended
  • 1 drop of rosemary oil
  • 1 drop of castor oil

Place all ingredients into your blender, then apply to your face. Leave on for 10-minutes then rinse.

Coffee Turmeric Mask

Struggling with puffy, inflamed skin? This coffee and turmeric mask could be your solution! The caffeine in the coffee grounds contain antioxidants which work well to reduce inflammation and give a healthy glow to the skin. Turmeric is packed with vitamin C, while the yogurt in this recipe will smooth and hydrate.

Ingredients & How To Apply

  • 1-tbsp of instant or ground coffee
  • 1-tbsp of powdered turmeric
  • 1-tbsp of Greek yogurt

Mix together the coffee, powdered turmeric and Greek yogurt until smooth. Apply the mixture all over your face, and be sure to apply to your eye area as well if you struggle with puffy eyes. Leave on for 20-minutes and rinse well with a warm, damp towel.

Argan Oil Mask

If you’re looking for a mask to soothe your inflamed, dry skin, try out this Argan oil mask. It contains vitamin E which is a huge skin saver with its anti-inflammatory benefits. It also contains avocado and avocado oil, which can help to maintain hydration and restore the skin’s natural barrier.

Ingredients & How To Apply

  • 1-tsp vitamin E
  • ¼-cup avocado oil
  • ½-avocado
  • 1 drop of Argan oil

Blend together the avocado, vitamin E, avocado oil and Argan oil until a thick paste is formed. Apply the mask to your face and leave on until fully dried. Rinse with warm water.

Honey Lavender Mask

Craving a deeply relaxing spa experience? Look no further than this honey lavender mask. Lavender is naturally soothing and is known to promote sleep, but it also helps to soothe redness on the skin. The coconut oil and avocado are essential fatty acids which add a boost of hydration and moisture to the skin.

Ingredients & How To Apply

  • 1-tsp honey
  • 1-tsp coconut oil
  • ¼ ripe avocado (mashed)
  • 2 drops of lavender oil

Combine the mashed avocado, honey, coconut oil and two drops of lavender oil into a bowl. Combine until smooth and apply to your face. Leave on for 10-minutes and rise thoroughly.
