Hollywood’s Underrated Celebrity Couples

8 min read

By ActiveBeat Author

There is a history in Hollywood for “power couples” that have formed between some of the biggest celebrities whether they are singers, actors, or athletes. These couples, which include Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, and Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, seem to be talked about all the time, and with good reason, as they are loved and envied by their fans. Many more amazing celebrity couples slip under the radar and don’t get nearly enough credit for their adorable romances and longstanding relationships! Check out Hollywood’s underrated celebrity couples:

15. Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann

For nearly 20 years, Mariska Hargitay has been one of the most powerful women on TV as Olivia Benson in Law & Order: SVU, but when she isn’t on the small-screen she isn’t often in the spotlight. Hargitay is very down-to-earth and lives such a low-key life that many don’t realize she is married to an actor! In 2004, Hargitay married Peter Hermann who had guest-starred on Law & Order: SVU, but many may know better for his roles as Jack Boyle on Blue Bloods or Charles Brooks on Younger. Together, the pair have welcomed son August and have adopted daughter Amaya and son Andrew.

14. Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden

When Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden first started dating in 2014, their names were everywhere because everyone was shocked by the Hollywood star with the tattooed Good Charlotte rocker, but since then they have fallen completely off the radar. After a whirlwind romance the pair were engaged after only a few months of dating and married in 2015 less than a year since their relationship begin. To the surprise of many, the pair are still very much together and Diaz has stepped back from Hollywood to focus on her marriage and enjoy time with her husband, which only makes them even more low-key!

13. Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart

There are few actors more prolific than Harrison Ford, yet one of his most incredible feats is keeping his personal life out of the spotlight. As a Hollywood icon and sex symbol, many eyes are always on Harrison Ford, but for over 15 years he has been with actress Calista Flockhart. Flockhart, who is best known for her roles in Ally McBeal and Supergirl, began dating Ford back in 2002 and the pair were married in 2010. While the duo have graced some red carpets together, for the most part they avoid the spotlight at all costs making them one of the least-talked about and underrated celebrity couples out there!

12. Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles

Separately, Jensen Ackles and Danneel Harris (now Ackles) have starred in two of the biggest shows on The CW, yet many fans don’t even realize the pair are together! Ackles who of course stars as Dean Winchester in Supernatural and Danneel who starred as Rachel Gatina on One Tree Hill became engaged in 2009 and were married in 2010. Together they have welcomed daughter Justice Jay (JJ) in May 2013, and twins Zeppelin and Arrow in 2016. They also run the Family Business Beer Company in Texas, and for two stars of two of TV’s biggest series, it is incredible how private they have kept their life together!

11. Patrick J. Adams and Troian Bellisario

Another one of television’s most underrated couples is Patrick J. Adams and Troian Bellisario. Adams is best known for starring as Mike Ross through seven seasons of the hit series Suits while Bellisario starred as Spencer Hastings throughout the entire run of Pretty Little Liars. The pair began dating in 2009 when they met on the set of Equivocation, and were married in December 2016. They are so private that they were able to keep Bellisario’s pregnancy under wraps until she was nearly nine months along and in October, 2018 they welcomed their first child together, a daughter. The pair welcomed a second baby girl in 2021.

10. Emily Blunt and John Krasinski

It wasn’t until 2018 did Emily Blunt and John Krasinski’s relationship come to the forefront of the spotlight, but by that point the two had already been married for eight years! The gorgeous actress and the hilarious The Office star began dating in 2008 and were married in 2010, and it wasn’t until they starred in the 2018 hit film A Quiet Place together did many know that they were together in real life. While the two have opened up a little about their married life and life with daughters Hazel and Violet, they are one of the least in-your-face celebrity couples out there, and fans love them for it!

9. Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz

While Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz could quite possibly be the two hottest Spanish stars in the industry, it is incredible how well they have been able to keep their private life out of the spotlight. The two initially met back in 1992 when filming Cruz’s breakout film Jamon, Jamon, but they didn’t begin dating until over a decade later in 2007. Cruz and Bardem eventually married in the Bahamas in July 2010 and welcomed their first child Leo in 2011, followed by their daughter Luna in 2013.

8. Mark Harmon and Pam Dawber

Mark Harmon has been one of TV’s biggest stars for decades, but his starring role on NCIS has cemented him as one of the most popular men on TV. Despite the magnitude of his TV stardom, Harmon has been able to keep his private life, exactly that: private, and many do not realize he is married to one of the most popular actresses of the ’80s, Pam Dawber. Dawber is best known for her role as Mindy in the iconic sitcom Mork & Mindy and as Sam Russell in My Sister Sam, but many don’t realize she and Harmon have been married since 1987. These two have made it into the headlines a couple of times, but for the most part they fly completely under the radar and like it that way.

7. Harry Connick Jr. and Jill Goodacre

Harry Connick Jr. is one of the entertainment industry’s most talented men and has starred in movies like P.S. I Love You, released record-breaking albums and even hosts his own TV show. Since 1994, Connick Jr. has been married to iconic Victoria’s Secret model Jill Goodacre, who was so popular in the ’90s, she had a guest spot on Friends with the whole episode centering around Chandler being trapped in a bank vestibule with her. Even with their immense fame between them, they don’t flaunt their relationship to the public and many forget they are even together!

6. Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone

It is no secret that Melissa McCarthy is now one of Hollywood’s most sought after comedic leading ladies, and while Ben Falcone has made cameos and has even appeared as her love interest in some movies, it gets overlooked that the pair are actually married in real life. They were married on October 8, 2005 and welcomed their first daughter Vivian in 2007 and their second daughter Georgette in 2010. The lovebirds know so many years of marriage is definitely a success in Hollywood, with McCarthy stating, “We have always been lucky that we have worked together for so long but we see the same thing and we have had the same goals.”

5. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar

Back in the ’90s there were no bigger stars than rom-com king Freddie Prinze Jr. and Buffy the Vampire Slayer herself Sarah Michelle Gellar. It is hard to believe that the two have now been together for 17 years, which is a lifetime in Hollywood, and while the spotlight may not be on them like it once was, it has had no effect on their amazing relationship. The two initially met while filming 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, but didn’t begin dating until three years later following a difficult breakup for Freddie Prinze Jr. After getting engaged in 2001, the pair were married in September 2002 and have welcomed two children: a daughter Charlotte, and a son Rocky.

4. Leighton Meester and Adam Brody

It seems there should be more of a fan craze surrounding the real life relationship between two of the biggest stars from two of the biggest teen dramas of recent years. Gossip Girl‘s Leighton Meester and The O.C.‘s Adam Brody met in 2010 while filming the movie The Oranges in New York and began dating. In 2013 they became engaged and were married on February 15, 2015. Later that year they welcomed their first child, a daughter Arlo Day, and although they rarely go out in public, when they do, fans are ecstatic, and they are still happier than ever.

3. Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes

Ryan Gosling has been one of the most lusted after Hollywood stars for years, and it still amazes everyone how well he has been able to keep his personal life out of the spotlight, despite the fact it is with another A-list star, Eva Mendes. Since they first began dating in 2011, their entire relationship has been elusive, and by 2012, despite numerous sightings together, they would not admit to being together. Recently, they’ve opened up more than ever about their life together which now includes their two daughters Esmeralda and Amada who were born in 2014 and 2016 after extremely secretive pregnancies.

2. Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz

After taking on the role of James Bond and the womanizer ways that are connected to the character, there was more of a focus than ever before on Daniel Craig’s love life. Thanks to how private he is about his personal life, a lot of his fans forget that Craig is in fact married to actress Rachel Weisz known for her work in The Mummy, About a Boy, Constantine and more. The pair began dating in December 2010 and were married in June 2011 in a small private ceremony attended only by four people, including Weisz’s son Henry and Craig’s daughter Ella. After an extremely private pregnancy, the couple welcomed their first child together, a daughter, in September 2018.

1. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton

One of Hollywood’s best kept secrets has been the relationship between beloved actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan and former One Tree Hill star Hilarie Burton. The two began a relationship in 2009 after being set up by Morgan’s former Supernatural co-star Jensen Ackles and his wife, Burton’s former One Tree Hill co-star Danneel Harris. The following year they welcomed their son Augustus “Gus”, and although there have been many rumors about a marriage, they never confirmed a wedding although Morgan now refers to Burton as his wife in interviews. In February 2018 the pair welcomed their second child, a daughter named George Virginia Morgan.
